Dog-approved, great for easy access to stitches
My Australian Shepherd thought this thing was fantastic. Much easier to get around and lick his neuter incision than that inconvenient Comfy Cone.
The Comfy Cone freaked him out a bit because he'd never worn a cone before and he's a delicate, sensitive snowflake. Made us feel bad. The night before, he'd wedged himself into the corner of his crate and couldn't figure out how to back up with the cone on, so he woke us up by scratching loudly on the floor of his crate, and thought this would be a good solution that was a little less intense than the cone. It was way less intense! I woke up in the morning to find him with a wet, raw incision he'd been licking for who knows how long at night. He'd licked off two days' worth of healing/scabbing.
Instead of enjoying my coffee on the patio on Sunday morning, I got the pleasure of spending half the day in our emergency vet office to the tune of $260. Between the vet visit and antibiotics, this was a very expensive cone, PLUS I didn't even get a full refund when I returned the darn thing (I had to pay for return shipping). This thing *might* work for a dog with a shorter body like a bulldog, but anything that has a longish body will weasel right around it. He's an Aussie, not even something like a Doxie or a Basset hound.
On the plus side, it didn't block his vision, as promised. If you're looking for a dumb-looking accessory for your dog to wear, this is a great choice. If you actually want to keep the dog from getting at the area that's healing, buy something else. The Comfy Cone worked fine for us. Once he got used to it, he just sulked whenever he had to wear it. This donut collar is less than worthless; it cost me $267.
