Before you buy BE WARNED!!!
Square Deals states these are manufacturer refurbished tablets, and that was what I was expecting.
The first one I got had some screen retention (burn in) on one side of the screen. On a dark background it wasnt that noticeable, but on a light or white background stuck out like a sore thumb. It clearly reads : "Product design, specifications, colors and user interface included in this video are subject to change without notice and may vary from those shown. The availability of services may vary by country."
Yes, that was permanately burned into the screen along one side. With AMOLED something like this can not be fixed without replacing the entire display. It is caused by showing the same image, over an extended period of time. Like a Demo model would.
So I contacted Amazon, and as always they were great!! They rushed me a replacement ASAP.
I was hoping/thinking this was something that just slipped through the cracks un-noticed.
So the replacement came today, and that same writing is burned into the screen on the same side, but not nearly as noticeable. I could easily hide it if not for the fact the rest of the screen has a huge Samsung logo and some graphics burned into the screen covering the entire center. On Web pages, or any light background it can't possibly be missed. It covers a good 50% of the screen.
According to Samsungs official site:
Each Samsung Certified Refurbished Product:
is fully tested (including full burn-in testing, if applicable)
is refurbished with replacement parts for any defective modules identified in testing.
is put through a thorough cleaning process and inspection.
is repackaged (including appropriate manuals, cables, new boxes, etc.).
So Im a bit confused. This is advertised as manufacturer refurbished.
Yet Samsung clearly states they are tested for this very issue and fixed. The also state NEW BOXES. My first one was in the original box, but scuffed up. The replacement (which was worse) came in a plain white box.
Now, in regards to the Galaxy Tab s 10.5 itself, its a great tablet. And I do recommend the tablet itself.
In regards to the Certified manufacter refurbished version sold by Square Deals: They could pass for a new one so long as no one actually looked to closely at the display to see the burn in. They seem to work well also, except that neither of the 2 I got have working headphone jacks. Burn in issue aside, they look and work good. Minus the headphone jack that doesn't work.
I have come to the conclusion these are NOT Samsung Refurbished products, but rather demo models that have simply been reset to factory default settings, thrown in a box as sold as Manufacturer Refurbished.
If not Samsung, then what manufacturer are the referring to? And Certified by whom?
If you do not mind the screen being permanantly damaged (I/e you can not fix it easily without replacement) and do not mind seeing the ghost image of a demo screen or text behind everything you do, the tablets themselves look good and perform well.
I do wish Amazon would edit the description to state clearly these may not be Manufacturer refurbished as stated. Because nothing seems to follow Samsungs refurb guidlines here, and no sticker any marking showing otherwise. Just a tablet, and charger in different types of boxes.
And its not fair to Amazon to keep sending replacements (paying shipping on each) until I receive one thats as advertised. Its not Amazons fault.
Screen shots added. Note it looks worse in person than in the pictures. The 1st has the text on the side, clearly visible, near home button. The replacement has the same text to a lesser degree, but also the Galaxy logo and other graphics burned into the screen. Those are not shadows, but discoloration form the burn in.
