I wanted a fancy can opener for a long time--one that wouldn't rust and that would leave a safe edge. I was very pleased with this one's performance for the first few months. The locking mechanism on the can opener (instead of the traditional squeeze shut to connect the blades to the can) is enabled by turning the knob which is also used to open the can: it first locks on to the can and then unscrews the can. It unlocks by turning the knob in the reverse direction. After a few months of use, the lock mechanism will no longer engage when turned, and the product is now nonfunctional.
