Failed after a few weeks and the replacement did the same
I don't write many reviews, but I have to say that I am particular disappointed with this router. I work in the computer networking field so I am reasonably equipped to set up and manage routers. For this one, all I wanted to do was have it set up as a static router and have the 5ghz and 2.5ghz networks chugging along. Simple enough, right?
I have a primary FIOS router for DHCP addresses and internet connectivity, and just wanted to get this to tack on to the network for the fast wireless support. After about 2 weeks of use, the wireless started dropping out and would require unplugging it and plugging it back in to re-enable it. Also, the web-based interface would be unresposive or unreachable (via the LAN) which made things extra frustrating while trying to change settings to fix the problem.
I contacted netgear support about the issue. While they were responsive, it took about 1 day or so for each internet-based-form response, and they had me try a laundry list of issues. I spent at least a week or more with back and forth--flashing beta firmware (that they had me sign a NDA for??), playing with settings, the standard factory resets, etc. Finally they sent me a brand new router (not a refurb, shrink wrap brand new) after all avenues failed. I thought that would be the end of the problem but now approximately 3 weeks later it has started failing again.
Kudos to amazon for allowing me to return this approx 3 months after purchase, because obviously netgear could not get a working product to me. This router is too high-end to have these kind of simple, preventable defects. I've been setting up routers for 20+ years and have never had one be so unreliable out the door.
EDIT - I should add that amazon charged me approximately $40 as a "restocking fee" which was not mentioned until I saw the credit processed. Just wanted to paint a complete picture.
