Hooking this to a pc is a bad idea RTX 3070 / 3080 The review you have been looking for
This review is for the 2021 U8G model 55". I am using this tv with a RTX 3070 in a pc setup. First off the ghosting you have ready about is there and it is just as extreme and awful as any reviewer has said. They are not exaggerating. It is mostly manifest as black smear. Dark scenes are Horrendous. Text against a white background is equally smear-or-rific when you drag your window around on desktop. Some of the worst I have ever seen. In fact it is so bad I suspect there will eventually be an update and fix for it but buying a hugely flawed tv with the "hope" that some day it will be fixed is dumb.
Now how about that sweet 120 HZ Freesync premium with an RTX 3070? Well it is terrible. The tv does successfully sync to the rtx 3070 frame output for a smooth experience but visually the quality of your game will drop from 4k to somewhere in the 1080p range. Everything gets blurry, real blurry. My best guess is that somehow the tv is actually outputting 1080p when 120HZ is enabled and yes I was hooked up to the hdmi 2.1 port 4 with a certified cable. Even text on the desktop will be blurry like you would expect from a 1080P display of this size (55") even though the tv is reporting that it is displaying 4k 3840x2160 and the nvidia drivers are saying the same thing. So you are forced to make the choice between 120 hz but super blurry both desktop and game or 60hz with crisp 4k desktop and game (although you will still have outrageous ghosting)
Another note I will add is (and I expected this) HDR does NOT work with the screen at 120hz or with VRR enabled. Do not believe anything they tell you differently This is not a freesync premium pro certified tv so no, HDR will not work with 120hz VRR enabled. HDR is limited to 60hz with no VRR. In other words if you want to use VRR than HDR is completely off the table and vice versa.
Rtings has given this a runner up position for their best gaming Qled 4k tv. I do not know what they are smoking but I want some. They obviously did not actually hook it to a pc with and modern RTX 3000 series GPU or they would have never recommended this hot mess.
I usually do not write reviews. I know there are a few more people like me out there that are looking for a good 4k tv to use as a monitor for desktop/gaming with 120hz VRR but sadly this is not it. Hope this saves you some time with getting it yourself and having to box it back up and go through the return hassle. Me writing this review is my gift to you to save your energy. Only one of us needs to have to rebox this thing and send it back. 6/24/2021
