Spoilers alerts below. This book started out well but turned into a Lifetime movie on steroids. I read the entire book and now I am mad at the waste of time. I thought it had potential at the beginning; I couldn't figure out where she was going with the "secret" - i.e., which storyline she'd follow. Turns out, she followed ALL of them. The more I read, the more outlandish it got. They'd need at least 2 Lifetime movies to cover this one. Spoiler alerts: young wife dying of cancer, abusive backstory complete with dead family, secret love child given up for adoption who may or may not have been killed by adoptive family, high school boyfriend who also had a child given up for adoption, and I haven't even gotten to the dead wife's bff with the abusive husband and potential romance with said bff, oh and don'f forget about the sideline romance with the kid's guidance counselor, and let's circle back to the "is she or isn't she dead" adopted baby who is now their current babysitter and is also dying from kidney disease! Aaargh! Sorry, I just want to kick myself for reading this whole book. It's too bad because I actually think the author writes well, she just needs a smaller story (not 19 in 1) and a better editor.
