Somewhat Disjointed and Lots of Grammar Errors
This is the first time that I have read any book by this author, so I'm not familiar with the original Chronos series. From other reviews, this sounded like a good, fast-paced read not dependent on prior knowledge of the first series. I, however, found it to be confusing and choppy. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this jumps backward and forwards in time, but in this case, it made the book disjointed. The author uses the device of interspersing newspaper articles or other writing in between the more standard chapters in the book, breaking up the narrative too much, adding to the choppy narrative. Because of the different timelines within the story, each suffered from what I would consider to be a rather prodigious information dump, which really slowed down the pacing of the story. I was also somewhat appalled by the number of issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage, enough to be distracting. This author has written several series; this isn't her first rodeo. Why wouldn't she have it properly edited? I had so hoped to like this story and dig into another interesting science fiction series—as I do enjoy science fiction (especially revolving around time travel) but find it hard to find a well-done series—but this and the original Chronos series will not be ones on my To Be Read list.
