ALMOST CAUSED A HOUSE FIRE
I wasn't actually going to review this heater since i figured mine was a defective one and since there were SOOO many positive reviews, i didnt want to smear the name for a defect. However, when i started to look for a replacement, i checked Lasko's other heater reviews and realized what i went through seems to be a common occurrence for this brand.
I ADVISE anyone about to purchase any Lasko product to read my review. Dont make a judgment on the brand base off my experience but it would be a good idea to keep it in mind and an eye on your heater.
Here is my situation:
-Had 2 different heavy duty heaters plugged into the same outlet in my bathroom. My house is also only 2 years old and NEWLY built with new equipment.
-My bathroom is very well spaced and would even compare it to average size bedrooms. So ventilation or high temps are not a problem.
-Purchased this heater. Within 2 days, plugged it into a surge protector that went to the same outlet.
-After first 10min of use, fuse on heater tripped. I checked and realized my surge protector was MELTING. Outlet on wall has VISIBLE signs of burns. Looks like someone took a lighter to it for about 20 sec. Pretty sure w/o the surge protector, my outlet/wall would have gone up in flames.
-took heater to my office and tried a plug there. Heater fuse tripped ever 10 seconds or so. Wire started getting very hot and so did outlet on wall. At this point i have deemed the heater defective.
-In conclusion, i now have to buy a new surge protector and have my outlet replaced. Heater ended up costing me money.
Like mentioned before, i know mistakes happen and this may have been a defective unit so i didnt want to ruin the lasko name. However as i was looking to replace this heater, i was looking into other lasko heaters which i then realized what i went through is common for other lasko heaters. At this point, i am terrified of having the same thing happen, but possibly be much much worse.
