UPDATED: They were great while they lasted
New TL;DR: These are not sweat proof, or even sweat resistant. if you are looking for a decent sounding set of bluetooth headphones that stay in your ears consistently, but will *never ever* be placed into a situation where you might get sweat on them, this is your pair. But if you are an active person, you should skip this pair and keep looking. Update 3: I contacted the seller and MPOW customer service to let them know that my second pair died and that they might have a manufacturing / quality-control issue since the 2nd pair died so quickly after being exposed to sweat. In my experience, not at all. My first pair died after the 6th run. My replacement set died 25 minutes into my first run with them. Their response (and this is a direct copy and paste from their email): "We are sorry that this headset is not sweatproof and we also did not indicate on our listing". Now, I'm not sure how you can market a pair of headphones as "sport" headphones and in your marketing materials show people running and cycling and NOT have them be at least a little bit sweat resistant. And at one point, their description DID say sweat proof (see Update #2). And their older version of the cheetah (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QXT7JOC/) still states being sweat proof. So, new final score: Stays in my ears: 5 Resists sweat: 0 Dropouts/connection issues: 0 (they're dead) Sound: 0 (cuz they're dead) Customer Service: 0 TOTAL SCORE: 1 star. Update 2: I went ahead and purchased another pair (though I didnt bother with the coupon - see update 1). I charged up the replacement set and went out on a run. They died *25 minutes* into my run. So, either I'm really unlucky and received two defective pairs in a row, or these things really aren't "sweat proof" and they're just hoping that no one ever tests it. I'll also note that when I originally purchased these, they listed them as being "sweat proof" in the description; I believe the actual statement was "Sweat proof design ideal for sports and active use". That statement has since been removed and now there is no mention of sweat resistance in the description. Update 1: The pair I originally reviewed died after the next run. They powered off and then would not respond to any buttons and would no longer turn back on. I attempted to charge them and the LED immediately went from red to green. I contacted MPOW's customer support and they wanted me to ship them back and then they would send me a replacement set. Sorry, but if your product dies on me in less than 20 days, I'm not paying to ship it to you. I'll do an advance return or you can send me a postage label. I have amazon prime so I returned them through Amazon. MPOW customer service offered me a $2 coupon if I were to purchase another pair. ORIGINAL REVIEW TL;DR - If you run, these headphones do not come out, no connection issues if you have your device on your left arm, and sound decent. I've been in the market for a set of bluetooth headphones to use while running for a LONG time. I've tried numerous "running" bluetooth IEMs and have reviewed several of them. I run with my phone in a waterproof arm band on my left arm. My top three priorities in a set of running headphones are 1. Stays in my ears while running 2. Resists sweat 3. No dropouts, loss of connection With sound quality and customer service tied for 4th. The vast majority fail my first priority, and those that don't usually fail #2. I'll mention that I have never had good luck with sport IEMs that use ear fins/cushions. Maybe I have odd shaped ears or something, but as soon as I'd start to build up a sweat, they'd work loose and fall out. I now have over 30 miles and about 7 hours of use with these headphones and feel I can give them a fair review. I have run with them in light rain, and on 85 degree days with high humidity. The Good These have not come out of my ears once, ever. I have never had a set of IEMs, wireless, wired, etc. that have stayed in place as well as these. As for connectivity issues, and again, I have my armband on my left arm, I _maybe_ have one brief connection hiccup per use. However, I can not say with confidence if the hiccup was actually on the phone (and not the bluetooth connection) or with the connection. Light rain and heavy sweat has not caused any issues so far. Most bluetooth headphone controls will stop working once sweat gets on them. Not these. I've used the controls completely drenched and they continued to operate. After my run, I wipe them off and let them dry off and they're good to go for the next run. Battery life is fantastic. As I mentioned, I have used them for about 7 hours now (runs + mowing + various) and they still aren't drained. Most other bluetooth headphones lasted for no more than 4 hours. Sound quality. Like most manufacturers, MPOW includes 3 sets of ear tips. I am almost always a medium, so went with those. During my first run, I was very disappointed in the sound quality. Lows were non-existent, and the mids were muddled. However, owning multiple pairs of IEMs I suspected I just wasn't getting a good seal. I tried all 3 sets but couldn't get a good seal. The larges were WAY too large, and the smalls were tiny. I grabbed a set of medium tips from a different pair of IEMs and the sound quality was drastically improved. These are pretty heavy on the low end, which can be good if you like that, but I still feel like the mids are underrepresented. These do not sound nearly as good as the MEElectronics X7 Sport Bluetooth Headphones . However, sound quality isn't my main concern while running, and I find these to be more than adequate. The one gripe I have about these headphones are the controls. There is a +/- rocker button on the under side of the right earphone. + increases the volume, - decreases it as you would expect. HOWEVER, to skip to the next track, you have to hold the - button, and to skip to the previous track you have to hold the + button, which is the opposite of every other bluetooth device I've used. It's not a deal-breaker, but can be annoying. Final score: Stays in my ears: 5 Resists sweat: 5 Dropouts/connection issues: 5 Sound: 3 Customer Service: N/A (will update this review if there is an issue) Total 4.5 minus 0.25 for the annoying controls, and another 0.25 for odd-sized tips = 4 stars.
