does not remove flouride as claimed
i bought this pitcher 2.5 years ago because i wanted flouride out of my water, and i live in a small apartment with little counterspace for a countertop filter and didn't want to install an undercounter system, considering i might move. I did a lot of research, and probably should have known that a pitcher removing 90% of flouride was too good to be true, as it is known to be a very stubborn and difficult thing to get out of water, and it is generally agreed that the only methods that will do it are either reverse osmosis (and i've actually seen some skepticism that RO does remove most of the flouride--in any case, they waste a ton of water and AA works beautifully) or activated alumina media. I certainly wanted it to be true. I often thought of buying a flouride testing meter, but kept naively trusting the 2006 (that's seven years ago people!) independent lab report posted on the seychelle website. The first filter i that came with my pitcher was faulty and i had to be shipped a replacement. It lasted a full 150 gallons before it slowed down..and when the next filter i got also needed replacement i started to wonder about the quality control and general integrity of this company. Nevertheless, i STILL continued using it as my only water filtration system for another year, before receiving a THIRD faulty filter. Not long after, i finally spent the $55 for a Hanna low range (0.1-2ppm) test meter. i tested both a faulty Seychelle filter sample, and a sample from a brand new seemingly unfaulty one. Both showed NO flouride reduction. I know the meter is working and accurate because 1) i have tested unfiltered municipal tap water and it reads exactly what the city says it is. and 2) i recently bought an activated alumina filter and the meter shows a 95% reduction!! Again, the seychelle tested a zero percent reduction on two different filters. This of course calls into question all the other results listed in the 2006 lab test and raises all sorts of questions. i have received a total of 5 seychelle filters, 3 of which were faulty. that's 3 out of 5. and despite the 2006 lab test results, the filters being made now, do not remove flouride, i don't care what the company says, i have my own test to prove it. Makes you wonder how true all the other analyses really are. Makes you wonder why they don't test these filters annually and why the latest test was performed 7 years ago. and why they have no quality control on the filters to make sure that they function properly. Im not the only one who's received multiple faulty filters. read other reviews. Lab tests are not that expensive. Even an individual can have a huge host of contaminants tested for by sending a sample to a lab. So why couldn't a major water filter company spring for an annual test? I highly recommend you keep shopping for something that stands the most basic tests of integrity.
