Mold, fungus & bugs
I've been using the Aerogarden for a couple years now, and have enjoyed growing & using fresh herbs year-round. I've purchased both the pre-seeded & grow-anything pods from Amazon multiple times without any problems...until now. The last two orders of the grow-anything pods were disgusting: white mold started growing almost immediately on the tops, and I wound up with gnats flying around near the grow light. (The one or two pods without mold grew seeds normally.) After removing the pods that did germinate (after ~ a month), a slimy green algae of some sort was coating the water reservoir both times. I had to soak & scrub out the reservoir with a water/bleach mixture to get rid of it, although I fear my Aerogrow is ruined now. :/ If this happened once, I'd consider it a fluke. Twice, and it's more like a supplier problem. I can't tell if the problem is with Amazon shipping old/moldy pods & stale plant food liquid, or if the issue is with Aerogrow itself. I love my Aerogrow & plan to order pods from that company directly. I will post an update here with the results. If everything grows normally once again, I'll assume it's an Amazon problem. EDIT Nov2019: Ordered this same kit twice now from Aerogrow directly, and immediately noticed the difference. All soil pods were already assembled & came in sealed silver plastic/foil. Still had one pod that grew a small spot of white fungus, but the others were fine. Took a little longer to arrive (over a week), but worth the wait to order from Aerogrow direct.
