After receiving this product I happened to view a Youtube video of a gentleman showing himself attempting to repair one of these. During his attempt at a repair he discovered that the drive inside of the case was one manufactured 10 or so years ago from when he purchased the drive. Being the curious type, I opened the case to discover that mine also was manufactured over 10 years ago. The seller (or whoever) is obviously obtaining old internal drives (probably from damaged or obsolete laptops and pc's) and packaging them in external drive cases. The drive seemed to work ok, however I didn't appreciate that I had purchased a used product that was supposed to be new. I returned it for a refund. Is what is being done illegal...I don't know. But I would opine that it's certainly unethical. These units should be sold as refurbished. If you've purchased one of these, it's easy enough to take the cover off the case and see the label on the drive inside.
