Buyer beware – deceptive battery issue
I was ready to really like this clock. It’s attractive, silent, portable and inexpensive. What it’s not is practical. It isn’t until the very final sentence of the operating instructions that the flaw is revealed: the manufacturer states alkaline batteries should not be used as they will damage the clock movement. Of course, there’s no mention of this in the on-line description. What nonsense. Alkaline batteries (for example, Duracell Copper Top and Energizer) are readily available while old-fashioned carbon zinc batteries have much shorter shelf life times; don’t power a device nearly as long; and are less widely available. Who would want to buy and store both alkaline and carbon zinc AA batteries just to have carbon batteries for this clock? Ridiculous. During the pandemic, I’m not leaving my home for trivial reasons such as returning this clock, so I’ll just use it until my alkaline batteries make the clock unusable. Buyer beware.
