Buying this to read old floppies? Don't bother...
I discovered a bunch of old floppies (including some really classic games) that I wanted to try get working in VDOS, etc., on my Windows 10 PC, but this drive doesn't read old floppies. Yes, you read that correctly. It even says as much in the two-page documentation that comes with the drive (even though there's zero mention of that fact in the product description):
"Floppy Disk is Not Accessible, Not Formatted, or Not Recognized by Windows?
It is a possibility that the data on the floppy drive has gone bad.
1. Please try another floppy disks.
2. Please try to use this floppy disk on different computers?
Or this problem occurs on disks that do not contain a media descriptor byte in the BIOS parameter block (BPB) of the boot sector. Some old preformatted floppy disks do not contain a media descriptor byte. Older product disks may also not have the media descriptor byte. If you meet this issue, please try different disks or return the item to Amazon for full refund."
In other words, unless you're using new floppies that were formatted in this USB drive, then they're simply not going to work. I mean, seriously, who would want to use this as new storage media? It's cheaper and exponentially more storage space to just use a USB thumb drive. Of course we're all buying this to access old data on old disks. Why else would anyone want to go back two decades and use this archaic technology?
It's literally like selling a USB turntable that can't play your old LP record collection -- it can only play "new LPs"??? This has to be hands-down the most ridiculous, misrepresented product I've ever seen offered on Amazon.
