I'm pretty sure KitchenAid bean counters are counting on people not ...
I consider myself a rational, thinking cook and baker. Whomever at KitchenAid designed this "premium metal construction" cut every corner imaginable when it comes to durability and integrity of critical moving parts. The motors on these mixers are beasts, but for some reason (probably money) QA let this attachment out of the building with major flaws in design. The parts that are going to be torqued the most are plastic, NOT metal as described. The vegetable skewer attaches directly to the motor shaft with a base that is entirely plastic. Yeah, that won't fail. (Yes, that's sarcasm.) The part that will be bending and flexing as the vegetable does will break that plastic mold in a heartbeat.
The entire premise of this attachment is quality metal construction, but the pieces which attach to the heavy duty metal shaft are plastic. I'm pretty sure KitchenAid bean counters are counting on people not understanding the basics of physics or material characteristics when this thing fails catastrophically.
Trust me, that's not a superhuman concrete apple you're trying to slice. The design implication is insulting. Had the pictures accurately reflected exactly how bad the design / execution was, I wouldn't have bought it at all. I bought it through Amazon because there isn't anywhere locally I could inspect it in person. Additionally, you wouldn't know about the plastic until you see it physically attached to the mixer.
I don't blame Amazon at all. They posted the description available to all merchants. KitchenAid is the liar in this case. KitchenAid = FAIL
