Couldn't finish and here's why
A lot of people loved this book. I found it supremely annoying and couldn't finish.
-- The heroine sighed like a martyr before every other utterance. This is not attractive.
-- The hero slept with her, his BFF, for comfort after his breakup, then sent her off to the office and slept with her friend who dropped by!!! After this, he couldn't figure out why the heroine might possibly be upset with him.
--The heroine was pretty ladylike until she jumped into bed, when she immediately morphed into apparently a logger or some other manly type who yelled 'F--- me' over and over. I think this was supposed to be sexy. It wasn't.
--The heroine was too stupid to band together with all the other women in her office who were being sexually harassed by her boss to the point he tried to rape her one evening in the office. These women were supposed to be professional book editors in NY City, and they're this naïve?? I doubt it. Welcome to the 21st century, where we have laws in place to protect women so they don't have to put up with this. If they'd been illegal immigrants in a sweatshop, I might have believed it.
--The characters speech was robotic and analytical, with few contractions and big words that a psychologist would use to describe behaviors, but that normal 20-somethings definitely do not use in conversation with themselves or each other.
--The author let us know when characters were angry by putting their words ALL IN CAPS!! Because you know, we're too dumb to figure it out if she showed us this with descriptive words.
--The heroine lied to the hero, and her brother, both of whom cared about her. And you know, people do this, but this was in a way I just lost all respect for the character.
