I have a Ryobi Orbital I have used for many years without any problems, except that the motor was very loud. I purchased the Makita B04556 and was happy with the fact that it was much quieter and worked pretty good. I always wear safety goggles when using power equipment along with ear protection and I am glad I did yesterday. I was sanding a wooden chair with the Makita and it literally BLEW UP sending the sanding plate accross the garage and plastic bits and 4 very hot wheels flying in all directions. If I had not been wearing safety goggles and was sanding at eye level, I stood the chance of receiving major damage to my eye. This sander was purchased in December, 2017 and used minimally since purchased. I would not purchase another Makita product due to this catastrophic failure. Buyer beware, if you own or intend to purchase this finishing sander, wear eye protection, and leather gloves. The failure of this sander happened in an instant.
