Appears to work well... actually suffers short dropouts nearly constantly. AVOID.
If I could give this zero stars, I would. I was looking for a "plug, play, forget" system for a 3 story house with a detached barn. I started with a 3 node Velop system, and it appeared to work. Then I noticed a lot of "pauses" in connectivity. Foolishly, I ordered two more nodes, thinking this was because the nodes were too spread out (two in the house, one in the barn). It actually got worse with five nodes. A few google searches and I discover that this is a widely known problem. There are threads all over the Linksys support forums where people are having these pauses or short disconnects or micro drops. The forums suggest many "jumping through hoops" fixes, like splitting the 2.4 and 5 GhZ networks, separate SSIDs, and more... none of which seem to actually work for a broad section of users. I've already spent more time on this than I wish, and I am really infuriated by the amount of money. In the current (July / August 2017) mesh router market, these are DEFINITELY a premium priced product, Nonetheless, they seem to be one of the worst out there. Furthermore, there is widespread user commentary about problems with SONOS and VELOP. And, yeah, I have a new SONOS system, and it has been acting very odd. These short pauses also drive my security cameras crazy, making them totally unreliable. Also, the "log" function inside the Velop is a total joke. It shows endpoint (client) connections, and DOES NOT SHOW when a Velop node drops. I can stand there and watch the light change and then recover... yet there is nothing in the log... SHAME on me for not doing more research before ordering. SHAME on Linksys for shipping a product that operates so poorly in the real world. I've ordered a Google Mesh system. In a few weeks, I will come back and update this review. At this moment, two of my VELOPS are returnable to amazon, and they will go back today. I'll research what I can do about the first three. Edit: I have now had the "Google WiFi" mesh system for about a month. Came out of the box and "Just worked". The configuration utility on iPhone is much smoother end user experience than the Velop. And... drum roll please... the Google WiFi has been flawless the entire month. No strange pauses. No micro drops. We experience a large number of power hits, and I haven't had to even look at the Google WiFi after a hit. It just comes back up and and works. I did get curious about the way the app reports the "mesh", and exactly how the Google WiFi puck in the detached barn (actually a metal building, because it is an aircraft hangar) was relating to the multiple pucks in the house... is it true "mesh", or is there a "center"? Again, this was just a curiosity question, because everything was working. Long story short: I found a URL to dump the logs, and, unlike the ridiculously empty Velop logs, the Google WiFi logs are very complete. In fact, because the puck actually runs a version of ChromeOS, the logs will be familiar to anyone who is a UNIX Networking techie. Most folks won't ever need those logs... the configuration app does just fine... but they are there if you want them. End of update.
