Warning - unit is useless with a major design flaw
Yes, this unit simply does not do what it's suppose to, which is to trap mosquitoes utilizing a special light to draw them into a chamber with a small fan, where they simply starve to death and dry up. They also make a ridiculous claim that the unit also has a "special paint" that generates CO2, which also is supposed to attract the pesky beasts. However, any fourth grader at a science fair could tell you that this just is not possible. After less than a year of use, cleaning out the "death chamber" every few weeks, all I ever encountered were maybe a small handful of innocent tiny moths, and never one mosquito. Oh, they were around, since sitting out in my atrium, where I installed this useless unit I would look up at the blue glow coming off of the "special light", all the while swatting mosquitoes off my arms and face! But the real downer to this silly useless device came to me when after less than seven months, the special light burned out. Even though by then I was convinced that this unit was useless, I did check on Amazon to see what a bulb replacement would cost. It was then that my jaw dropped with the realization that the way this unit is designed, you can not replace the bulb. That's right... once the bulb burns out, you have to throw away the entire unit! Of course no-where in all the information imparted on the order page do they let you know this. There is some mention of some kind of outrageous claim of just how long the bulb lasts which makes you think that it will still be burning bright right through the next ice age, but in reality (and from info by neighbors who also made the mistake of purchasing this power-waster), running 24/7 which is what one does with these kind of units, they all found themselves with a suddenly light-less unit within six to eight months, or less. So, first you have a unit that simply does not trap mosquitoes, and second, it is designed to be the ultimate in planned obsolesce, since you have to throw the entire unit away and buy another one, once the bulb burns out. Now this is for this mini-unit. I believe the larger units do indeed allow you the "luxury" of purchasing a new bulb without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Do the bigger units work? I have no idea. But I'm not going to waste any more money to find out. I'm going back to Citronella candles. Do they work? who knows. But at least they smell nice and give off a romantic glow.
