First Time Parents - Buyer Beware
Let me caveat my review with the fact that my wife and I are soon to be first time parents. As a result, we are doing as much research as possible to learn about what things we need to make our baby (and ourselves) as comfortable as possible. At the same time, we want to make sure we are spending money in the most efficient way possible. This leads us to Graco's Day2Dream Playard & Bedside Sleeper.
The most appealing thing about the Day2Dream product is that it is marketed as an all-in-one system - day and night usage for a baby. The product features a bassinet like product (Graco calls this the sleeper) that is shown in marketing images (on Amazon's page and in my attached photo) as a place to keep the baby overnight. In the interest of saving some money, my wife and I bought the Day2Dream with the hopes of keeping the Pack 'n Play downstairs in our family room and the sleeper bassinet next to our bed as a convenient way to feed him in the middle of the night. Here's where we have issues:
1. Graco markets the sleeper as a bassinet (look at all of the imagery on their site) for a baby to sleep overnight
2. The sleeper bassinet has straps and some padding that is not removable - this makes it difficult to do a traditional swaddle of the baby when putting him to bed
3. We sent multiple questions to the Amazon Q&A page and to Graco directly on how the sleeper bassinet should be used - Graco didn't respond to the questions sent directly to them and provided very generic "ask your pediatrician" responses on the Amazon Q&A, while alluding to the fact that the sleeper should not be used unsupervised at night (most parents can't be awake 24/7 to watch their child sleeping).
As first time parents, we rely a lot on information provided to us by manufacturers. When they market a product one way and then say that the product shouldn't be used that way, it's extremely misleading. Graco is a massive company in the baby/child care industry. It is inexcusable for them to show a product being used in a way that it isn't intended. We bought our Day2Dream directly from Graco - prior to it being available on Amazon.
If you are a parent looking to use the bedside sleeper as a bassinet, please reconsider. Buy a cheaper Pack 'n Play separately and a real bassinet. Don't let Graco fool you.
