Bad blade, this is not the real FURminator
I know it sounds far-fetched, but these "FURminator" products are not authentic. FURminator only distributes through their website and through retailers like PetSmart. Customs officials keep confiscating hundreds of thousands of dollars of these fake tools being shipped into the country from China. FURminator has won several lawsuits for US counterfeits.
My concern is that this one made my dog cry a lot while we were brushing him, which is why I started investigating. I bought a real one today from an authorized retailer. The logos are subtly but unmistakably different. The product this distributor is selling infringes on patent laws and is a theft of intellectual property. By distributing it they are making themselves vulnerable to civil lawsuits. Furthermore, and most importantly, this product has an inferior blade that caused my dog discomfort while being brushed. The authentic blade did not cause any discomfort. The inferiority of the blade is also blatant when comparing the amazon product to the authentic product side-by-side.
It appears from the reviews that many are having perfectly good luck with the substitute product. I am glad for them. However, if you have any trouble, be aware that this product isn't the real FURminator. Yes, the real FURminator seems ridiculously expensive, but I bought the counterfeit here when it was listed at $27, and that's simply too much to pay for an item that causes my dog pain.
