The old version from the 80's was fine. This new version has been completely ruined.
I had this game as a kid 30 years ago, and it was one of my favorites. Fast forward to today when my husband and I were excited to play it with our 2.5 year old. What a cheap piece of crap and a waste of money. Here's why: 1) The "beans" are hideously designed and need to be separated from the plastic mold-strips by hand. This means that when you separate the beans, there is a sharp nib of plastic left on each and every bean at the spot where it was originally connected. The beans are also flat, not round like they used to be. They are less fun to hold and touch, poorly designed, ugly, and they feel cheap and sharp in some areas. 2) The bean pot is also a hideously designed character. This is a game for little kids. Make the characters CUTE AND FRIENDLY, not grotesque. The bean pot looks like the junkie cousin of the Kool Aid guy. 3) You have to put the stickers on the game yourself. Does it really even need stickers? 4) The plastic is cheap. 5) Because the plastic is cheap and also slightly matte textured, the bean pot doesn't pivot in the hinges very well and it always sort of leans to one side, even without any beans on top. 6) When all is said and done and you're sick of playing this crumby game, you realize the assembled bean pot doesn't fit into the game box anymore now that it's been assembled. Doesn't it make sense the the beans should be able to be stored IN the pot so you don't lose any? And doesn't it make sense that the game should be able to be stored in the box? This once fun, problem-free, well-designed game has been ruined in every way possible.
