Disappointed
My Kindle 2 has not lived up to the hype. The downloads range from a matter of minutes to a matter of days. I called customer service at Amazon to complain about this and a couple of days later they determined there was a hardware issue and would send a replacement and that it would be a refurbished unit. I paid $359.00 for a new unit, had that unit for barely thirty days and they want to send me a refurbished unit? That is shameful and speaks very poorly of Amazon and the customer service they offer. On an item like this, customer service and the customer have to be king or the customer will be left with nothing but frustration. Would they offer a refurbished unit to Oprah, Spielberg, or the like? Of course not! So the choice I'm left with is to either accept a replacement on their terms or return the unit. It's precisely this sort of customer service that bit GM in the trunk. I've been an Amazon customer almost from the beginning, but have always felt loyalty is a two-way street and am reconsidering my relationship with them.
Also, I'm often left with "phantom images" after turning the unit off. It's reminiscent of an Etch-A-Sketch in that respect.
If you're wondering if I'm going with the refurbished unit or with my money back, well if they would have been "stand-up" about it and offered a new unit in exchange for the faulty one, I would have given Kindle another try. But since that's not the case, I decided I want my money back. I guess I'll check out what Sony and the others have to offer.
BTW: This is the very first negative review I've ever written. It's normally not my way, but forewarned is forearmed.
