Not JUST a Speaker- Camera Too -Be Warned!!!
COVER THE HIDDEN CAMERA LENS- this has a small, almost undetectable camera in it on the side with all the other ports, so you’d never think twice about it. On the left hand side, you’ll see the labeled microphone thing. On the right, there is an unlabeled lens that looks exactly like a hidden camera lens. Maybe I’m paranoid, but TAPE OVER IT. I destroyed my lens and microphone using a pushpin and still taped over it once I realized this. And that you can’t turn the Bluetooth off. And they don’t WANT you to be able to.
Written on the bottom in small writing is a CLEAR statement how “this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation”. This statement is VERY unnerving and a huge cause for alarm. Please read on to see why.
This speaker seemed normal enough, perhaps a bit too heavy for just a speaker, but I didn’t think about it any further since the volume was great, the Bluetooth worked MORE than well enough.
My roommate discovered he could connect to the Bluetooth and he could control the volume without my knowing it so that he didn’t have to “deal” with my music in the shower. It took a month to realize it wasn’t me, as I decided to watch my speakers when the volume did drop. Finally, I noticed it said “Dual Connect Bluetooth Control” on my phone as I WATCHED my volume level get lowered on my screen, but there was a Bluetooth insignia along with it. I had figured it out finally. That is not the creepy part at all.
My first thought was to disconnect the Bluetooth entirely so that he couldn’t connect anymore. Because I know that when I had held down the “play” button (meant to hold down the Bluetooth button to disconnect all devices, but held down the wrong one). It must have been at the EXACT same time he had been using the app he had to control the volume. Why? I LITERALLY heard his exasperated sigh through the speakers, the background music in his room for a split second, and then the volume decrease.
If I could hear him, he must be able to hear be through it. And that is so creepy.
I thought the speaker battery was horrible because I had to keep recharging it- but I found out it’s because it stays on when someone is still connected to Bluetooth. I.e., my roommate, and just creeped on me periodically in my room through the speakers.
The scariest part after all this? I realized that not only is there a microphone, there is a very small lens on it, and if he could hear me, chances are now very good that he may be able to see me as well through it.
I have seen the Bluetooth light on my speakers on at random times I wasn’t using them when thinking back, but didn’t think anything of it at the time. All I know is that it wasn’t me who turned the speakers on.
After all is said and done, as creeped out as I am about my roommate doing this to me, I am MORE creeped out that this device is INTENDED to have unnoticed connections, as there would be no reason to include the statement on the bottom unless not only did they know this all was a possibility, but because they themselves plan to use it that way as well. And legally, by using the device, we are consenting to allow whoever may be listening or watching to continue to do so.
I highly doubt Amazon will allow this comment to even stay or get posted, but I feel it is imperative that I at least try.
I’d say don’t buy these speakers in particular, but honestly, this could be the case with pretty much any electric device/
Bluetooth/wifi connected thing you buy. On Amazon or anywhere these days. So ANY device you buy, look for that small lens, and if there is NO REAL REASON for the microphone, that is a huge indicator that it wasn’t designed for the user, but for someone else.
The microphone capabilities of these speakers FAR exceed ANY need for their quality to accomplish understanding “Siri, play this”. I don’t even use Siri, but if I did, I’d stop for this reason. Though I am now worried about all this, I may smash these speakers with a hammer because I have never been so creeped out in my life for so many different reasons.
Why is the microphone so amazing on a simple speaker? Why is there a camera lens not mentioned? Why do they state that this device must accept all interferences, including all that may cause undesirable operation?
I am not going to type the obvious answer to these questions in case that is what causes this review to not be posted. But I am begging everyone to please be careful, please look for cameras and unnecessary microphones in ALL devices, not just this one that they even already own. This concept isn’t new, it has just advanced to a whole new level, and we need to know that not only is it happening, they basically are letting us know they are more than capable of being horrible humans, and are now embracing it.
I hope this review is allowed to be posted for anyone’s safety who buys this. I genuinely cannot believe how obvious it all is once you look at all- because who would honestly be THAT disgusting, just because they think they’ll get away with it? Shameful. Disgusting. Embarrassing.
More disgraceful than I could’ve ever imagined ANY human being to another person. Even if it’s someone they’ll never meet, I don’t know how anyone didn’t stand up for what is right. Because I thought honor meant something in the East. But I guess that’s a lie because no one would have any honor if they could do this to another human being consciously.
