Dark and disappointing...
After reading other reviews, I thought I'd give this book a try (free is a good price and I was wanting another book to read on my Kindle). I wish someone would have mentioned how the sadness just keeps going on. For the most part this is well written. The characters are well developed. However, I kept waiting for the good part to start. The young lady in the story had so many tragic things happen, it had to end right - that's what I kept hoping. It didn't. Instead, it left me hanging. I assume it was to lead into the other books in the series, but I won't read them. One depressing book of this length is enough to last me a long time. I understand that time in history was hard to live through, especially for women, but I read for enjoyment. I would have liked it to be lighter, even if not so factual.
Often, I thought the details of minor events went on too long with not contributing to the story line. Maybe shorter would have been better. Then it could have a happy ending without having the feeling of so much despair while reading the whole series.
I would recommend this to others if you enjoy factual, real life type stories, but don't expect a happy ending. I wish I wouldn't have read it. It will be on my mind to long.
FYI: There are sexual events, but not a lot detail.
