I was raised in a fairly profane environment but this book offended my not-so-delicate sensibilities. I ordered this while listening to the audio version and before I reached the section where practically every sentence used the 'f' word. This book had the promise of being a great history book, suitable for educational purposes but for the profanity which became so thick toward the middle I just bailed out. Makes you wonder if this author could even communicate without f's and s's. I was raised on a large farm in Eastern Washington State. If perchance my parents had entertained these profane men. They'd have been kicked out of the house. I really wonder how they conducted themselves when receiving the good-natured hospitality of farmers along the way. The second star is for good historical background. I will use the book for the few informational chapters on the Oregon Trail.
