Hugely disappointed. The unit looks great, was easy to install, cools well, and retains the view and natural light from your window. Unfortunately, this is where the praise ends. As many people have mentioned, the unit has a drain on the interior that fills with water when there’s high humidity or heavy rain. This is not mentioned ANYWHERE in the manual which this type A neurotic read cover to cover. When it’s full, a pump kicks on that makes a LOUD metallic grinding sound, while the display flashes “FL”. If you’re unlucky, the unit will shut itself down, display a steady “FL”, the pump fails and you have to manually empty the drain before it will work again. We use the AC in our bedroom running only at night to keep us cool. The first time we heard the pump kick on and the display started flashing we were rightfully startled and concerned. Only by reading Amazon questions and answers did I discover what was happening with the unmentioned pump. I contacted the seller through Amazon to state my frustration and try to get some clarity on the pump’s workings and received a short, unhelpful response. Beyond the surprise pump sound and need to regularly drain the unit, it has become louder and louder during operation. During all speeds and modes the unit now buzzes and rattles, though nothing that the eye can see is loose (including internal filter), and the unit is firmly secure in the window. The most concerning sound though, is a loud “whooshing” where the fan speed suddenly kicks into overdrive and makes a sound as though the motor can’t keep up. For example, the unit is set to High fan speed and Cool, with whatever temp we’ve selected. The unit kicks on, blows cold, makes the terrible rattle and buzzing sounds, but then it sounds like the fan is working WAY too hard and spinning WAY too fast and the motor is surging. There’s the “whooshing” sound, and you can actually feel a sudden burst of air from the vents. This cycle continues irregularly over and over again during operation, even on quiet mode. I thought perhaps we’d received a lemon, but reading other reviews it seems at least the rattling and buzzing is being reported by others. I can’t express the let down here. We were so impressed with the look of the unit and the cooling power that we had plexiglass custom cut to fit above the unit in our window to improve insulation, as well as additional insulation for the sides of the unit. Around $70 additional dollars worth of supplies for an already expensive AC. It *looks* fantastic, but the noise this thing makes has made it impossible to sleep and I’m pretty sure it’s burning itself out. We’ve initiated a return and are awaiting a response from the seller.
