A very honest depiction of an empty husk
One thing that I will give this film is that it is an honest portrayal of a truly empty vessel of a political candidate. Just like during the actual campaign you will not hear a word about any policy he would implement or belief he holds. If you choose to self-flagellate and watch this movie ask yourself, "If Pete became president what would he do?" What does he think of our military spending, interventionist foreign policy, healthcare, voting rights, literally anything? I watched this with a morbid curiosity thinking perhaps I might get a little bit more of a peek into what he actually believes, but this steers clear of any of that. In lieu of any substance you get those amazing ouroboros platitudes that Pete is known for. Things like, "If we're fighting I'll remember what we're fighting for...blah blah blah." The closest thing we get to a policy position is something about, "making it so Americans can talk to each other again...creating a dialogue...something something whatever." Seriously you could make a really effective drinking game if you took a shot for every empty bromide this guy farts out of his mouth. This is a person who ran to become THE elected leader of THE global superpower and I challenge any Pete fan to tell me one policy that he would actually implement if elected. Don't tell me about how you speak eight languages, what are you going to do to make sure people don't bankrupt their entire family if they get cancer?! I guess the worst thing about this movie is that it reminds you how young Pete is and how we will definitely see this guy run for president again. God damn it.
