not a mattress - a torture device
A bit over a year ago, I realized I needed a new mattress. I did a _lot_ of research, and ended up with a Nectar mattress. About 8 months in, I developed a mystery pain in my hip, and finally figured out that it was the mattress. Thank goodness for their generous (a year) tryout period! That mattress went back, so I needed a new mattress. Back to the internet, to find a mattress good for hip pain and side sleepers. Layla was highly recommended. Nope - got rid of the hop pain, but caused shoulder pain. That one went back, too. Casper was slightly more money, but I thought, "Oh, wow, everyone really seems to love Casper. Totally worth a shot!" BOY, WAS I WRONG. This mattress caused terrible pain in BOTH my hips and my shoulders. After a few days, I couldn't even sleep on it, at all - I actually missed a day of work because I was so sleep-deprived. For reference, I'm 5'3", weigh 150 lbs, and always sleep on my side. The next mattress I tried (based on Wirecutter reviews) was a Leesa (the regular one, not the hybrid). I've had that for a few weeks now, and my hip and shoulder pain are almost gone.
