READ THIS REVIEW-Would be nice if I didn't pay for a heartache
I bought these headphones because they serve a very niche place in the market. I researched the hell out of 10 different websites and came to find that they arn't the best in any single category but stand as the overall most complete package for the price. Nice enough to be a worthwhile investment, plenty of features, but not going to break the bank at $200+. I was extremely excited for the opportunity to rock climb, box, and paddleboard with them. I received the headphones quickly, proceeded to open the box, and follow the "quick set up guide." The guide tells you to connect the headphones to your phone via bluetooth, download the app, and customize your sound. Here is where it falls apart. As soon as you download the app, the headphones are flagged as an older firmware so it tells you to update the firmware. I updated the firmware. The installation onto the headphones got stuck at 100% for about 30 minutes. I decided to restart the app. The headphones refused to connect again after about 6 or 7 tries. I then went to the troubleshooting on the Apps Q&A. The instructions tell you to: restart the headphones; which didn't work. Then they say to do a reset if you continue to have problems. During the reset the app tells you to specifically delete the memory of the connection from your audio device to the headphones. I do that, then continue forward with the reset. I try to reconnect- headphones are nowhere to be found on bluetooth. I do programming reset- headphones are nowhere to be found on bluetooth. I do a full factory reset - headphones are nowhere to be found on bluetooth. I try to connect on no less than (3) different phones & (2) computers- headphones are nowhere to be found on bluetooth. After 0 luck with the troubleshooting, I look up the problem and I come to find out that the firmware makes the headphones disappear from all bluetooth searching. Which means; once you follow directions on their app, your headphones will never be discoverable by any device ever again. Which makes them a cool looking useless brick of dead hopes and dreams. Granted, there are ways to get around the nonsense by not deleting the device from your phone memory, and still making these headphones work. However, the question comes down to.. why the hell would I want a pair of $180 bluetooth headphones that are 100% forever committed to a single phone? Sure you can say "well i don't need any other devices" but ask yourself... What happens if you drop your phone in the water, or it falls and breaks during a run, or god forbid you want to buy a new phone because your current phone is 5 years old? Im sorry, but seriously... after looking this issue up it seems relatively common now, with the first results showing up 4+ months ago... However, every time you look up connection issues on google, the results of this common and fatal flaw are hidden behind 20 links to the QandA troubleshooting on jaybirds website. Sure you can say "well isn't it the consumer's responsibility to fully research a product before you buy it?" Yes. But it should be behind a wall of sponsered search listings on google. So, logically- my next question, why the hell would a company that is aware of an issue caused by firmware not: a) Research and re-code the firmware so that this is not an issue b) warn their customers of firmware issues on the REQUIRED APP TO USE THE PRODUCT c) STOP FORCING CONSUMERS TO DOWNLOAD THE FAULTY FIRMWARE BY NO LONGER PUSHING IT ON THE APP.
