Why do they do this? A long, angry rant shouted into the silent void....
Treadmill is great, put it together in 4 hours by myself after work one night with a monkey wrench, supplied hex wrenches, and a Radiohead playlist. Treadmill gets 5 stars at this point. One problem was the shipping - more of an Amazon/Pilot issue. Amazon offers shipment day and time options (great) but apparently they don't map to reality per Pilot (bad). Scheduled it for a 1pm - 3pm delivery - shows as being delivered on Amazon order summary, including email alerts.....then at 3pm shows it not being delivered. Contact Pilot - treadmill has not been 'released' to them by Amazon yet. Amazon kindly refunds shipping, but there's no resolution to the scheduling or when the treadmill will arrive. Few days later receive notification that the treadmill is with Pilot and click the provided link to schedule delivery the following week on a Wednesday and pick a delivery time window - web page throws error message. Contact Pilot - they state it cannot be scheduled yet, to call back on the coming Monday to schedule/confirm. Following Monday receive another email from Pilot to schedule delivery, click provided link and schedule for the following Friday afternoon. Call Pilot to confirm this was in fact scheduled - they confirm it is in fact scheduled for the following Friday afternoon. Wednesday afternoon they show up at my house to make delivery. Luckily someone was there to sign and take delivery. So many, many emails and phone calls and schedule changes...but in the end it arrives and no harm/no foul. Supply chain issue I'll never have to deal with again. Treadmill still gets 5 stars at this point. The 1 star is for the iFit scam. Spend 4 hours putting the treadmill together on a week night, 11pm plug it in to test it out....and the console LCD is locked and displaying a URL for the iFit website to activate the console. No buttons on the treadmill clear this message, powering off/on doesn't clear this message. There is no way around this message. Nothing in the setup instructions re how to get around this message. You cannot use the treadmill at this point. It is locked and completely unusable. So I go to the URL displayed on the console screen, and it presents a set of steps to activate the treadmill console. Requires installing a tablet iFit app. Install it, start stepping through "activation" steps in the app which funnel you directly to a non-skippable page which REQUIRES a credit card to sign up for a monthly $15 subscription to iFit. There is no bypassing this step, there is no skipping this step. There are no options to activate/clear the treadmill console screen without taking this step. So I enter my CC info and subscribe to iFit - after which an app button is presented to activate the treadmill, which clears the $(@#)(*&#($ iFit banner ad on the treadmill and allows use of the treadmill. We're at 0 stars at this point. I then need to contact iFit to cancel this bogus/scammy/possibly fraudulent?/ransom-like subscription payment that was REQUIRED to make the treadmill usable. Which they gladly do, and do it very efficiently because they apparently just do this day in and day out and see no problem with it. I explained that even if I realized iFit was the one subscription service I've been waiting my whole life for, and it would solve all of my life's problems and make me the happiest man on the planet, I will never, even if we hit the singularity and my life ends up running for billions of years, never EVER pay a dime to iFit or its parent company or anyone/anything associated with iFit .....ever.....after having to deal with this garbage. Such a mind-blowingly dumb, senseless scam tactic. And ProForm - what possible amount of money short-term to load this garbage on your equipment and tarnish your reputation long-term could be worth it? How likely do you think it is that people who have to deal with this scam will recommend or consider your line for any future purchase? Did I mention the treadmill itself works great, seems solid, and is as described on the tin? It is - back up to 1 star. I'm sure I'll get years of use out of it before I replace it with a non-ProForm, non-iFit associated treadmill.
