..if something is too good to be true...it, etc., etc.
This is a case of "...if it sounds too good to be true, it is...". We were on the front end of a kitchen remodel, and our appliances work just fine but my wife wanted the more modern stainless steel appliances. I thought, perhaps I can save some $$$$.$$ and just paint our existing stove? I have painted homes inside and out professionally for several years when in College, plus I've done some painting on car restorations...all to state that I'm not a total novice and believed getting good results would not be a problem. I came here, read the reviews, went to YouTube and watched the video and excitedly purchased the Stove and Dishwasher "kit". Now the word "kit" to me implies that you will be receiving everything you need to complete the task at hand. When the "kit" arrived, it contained two small 6 oz. cans (think a small can of plastic wood, or smaller than a soup can); one containing the "liquid steel" (at the price of REAL silver!) and the other a 6 oz. can of "clear coat"...plus a 1" foam brush. How was I to accomplish covering both appliances with three coats of each product with such a small amount of product and only 1 brush? ...ah...the answer was contained within the one page instructions! You don't paint the entire stove! Huh? Yes, the instructions said I should only paint the front AND the first 2-3 inches of the side panels of the stoves that show! And that one little foam brush, how can I do three coats of "liquid steel" and three coats of "clear coat" for a total of 6 coats with only one brush? Yes, the instructions had the answer! Put the brush inside a plastic sandwich bag! So how did it go? Well, after my initial disappointment in the lack of product received and I moved straight into painting with my little 1" brush from the "kit"...and by golly...it started to work...and looked exactly like...exactly like....exactly like....someone painting a stove trying to make it look like stainless steel! Ha...after three coats of this silliness, I did what I should have done in the first place and what I would recommend to you. I went to the hardware store, purchased a $7 can of "high temp stainless steel colored" spray paint! I went home and finished the job. Both the dishwasher and stove look presentable...but they also look to be exactly what they are...a painted stove and a painted dishwasher. Have used the stove for cooking with no discoloration issues. However, they'll both be soon heading for Craig's list and we'll be shopping for new stainless steel appliances. I did go back and rewatch the manufacturer's video...I noticed the video shows the cans looking like at least quart size products (notice in the video when they show the cans, they don't show you the label which reads 6 oz.)...nor do they mention only painting a portion of the stove...both which I believe to be disingenuous on the manufacturer's part, but good enough to separate me from my money. Sorry to be a downer...but it IS what it IS...
