Deluxe is sufficient, yet Intuit guides me towards the Premier version
Every year, Intuit decides to deceptively steer its users towards a higher version that necessary. For people like me, with only W2, 1099-INT, 1099-B, and 1099-DIV, the Deluxe version is adequate. However, Intuit will still steer you to purchase the more expensive Premier version which has additional help. The Deluxe can file Schedule-D and 1040, so it is perfect, and you can always upgrade to Premier if you need the additional bells & whistles. However, the reverse is not true -- if you buy the unnecessary higher version and don't need, downgrading and getting refund for the balance is not an option.
I hope the deceptive folks at Intuit learn from this since they have been practicing this behavior for 3 years or more now. I am going to make sure that I leave a 1-star review each year until they stop doing this. I hope other users will also deduct stars from their review to discourage these guys from fooling millions of people to buy an unnecessary higher version.
