Saws are shipped without any oil in the gear housing!
This is a great saw but be warned: The last 2 saws I bought were shipped with NO gear oil in the gear housing. The worm gear must have gear oil for lubrication and it is printed on the side of the housing about the oil level indicator. I did not discover this deficiency until I used the saw for several weeks...Ugh! The second saw I purchased last month had NO gear oil in it either! ....Turned the saw upside down with the cap off and nothing ran out! These are made in China but seem to be good quality...But Check the oil before use!
