Nothing Like the USA Biesemeyer You Think You're Buying!
First off, I did not purchase this item on amazon, I purchased it on eBay from the same vendor though (CPO Outlets). I have been dreaming about upgrading my saw with a quality Biesemeyer for about 2 years and I finally did. Packaging: The fence was received into 2 separate boxes, one for the rails and guide tube and the other for the fence and support legs. The box that contained the rails and tube was destroyed. The ends were completely shreaded which exposed the guide tube. The plastic end caps that were installed on the tube were ground to pieces in the handling process. I blame the manufacturer for this as the packing was completely inadequate. There were several scuffs, scrapes and scratches on the tube and rails. The box the contained the fence survived but when I opened it the foam support blocks were in pieces and the fence and support legs were rattling each other. Again, more superficial damage. Quality: While the specs tout 9 ply Baltic birch for the fence faces it came with run of the mill 3 ply garbage and the laminate was severely proud of the t-molding as if the molding was installed prior to laminating the fence faces. The fence faces were installed way too low, such that the glide pad that allows the far end of the fence to slide across the table top was not able to contact the table at all. In fact the faces were so far out of adjustment that the fence could not make contact with the guide tube and just dragged across the table. It is not possible to correct this without destroying the fence faces. There is no way to adjust the fence perpendicular to the table which is fine if the fence is welded and assembled perfectly straight. However, the assembly is not perfect which leaves my particular fence faces no where near perpendicular to the table top. The cam lock on the handle goes way over center such that the peak pressure is applied mid stroke and gets looser when the handle is in the full locked position. The laminate faces of the fence have some crazy waviness to them and look like they have been rough planed. Running a dial indicator down the face revealed valleys as deep as .015" which is terrible by any standards. The tape measure that came glued to the guide tube has accuracy issues between the 15" and 25" mark as if it stretches and shrinks as you progress down the line. The moron who installed the tape did so such that the cursor on the fence can never be zeroed (1/4" off). Bottom line, forget about the Biesemeyer name you used to know. This is made in China junk and Delta should absolutely be ashamed of themselves for destroying such a legacy name. STAY AWAY!
