RUST
PROS: (not in order of importance to me) *attractive appearance *cordless *heats quickly *stainless steel *heating element not exposed *removable filter *not heavy *big pour spout, but also lets out a lot of steam--not for use under cabinets *top cover seals well *inside is "finished"--one of the Oster models I looked at in a brick-and-mortar store had a cheap looking , rough (for lack of a better word) inside that would feel gross if you touched it, not smooth. Reminded me of finger nails on a chalk board. *on/off light--off when finished heating *shuts off after boiling--safety feature, although it does boil for several seconds before shutting off CONS: *RUST on the upper lip of the kettle within first 3 uses--significant DEALBREAKER, and thus the single star *upper lip not connected to the rest of the kettle. In other words, if you place your finger on the lip of the top edge of the kettle opening and bend your finger tip over and under, you feel a sharp edge. It's not like you'd commonly stick your finger there, but it does catch water when you're trying to empty unused water. *doesn't keep water warm very long, although not made to do so *can't heat just one cup of water--minimum of almost 3 cups--no big deal if it kept water warm longer *boil/scalding/burn "spots" on inside bottom of kettle after first few uses with more than minimum amount of water--could just be Texas water doesn't play nice with kettles *pretty tall, difficult to fit under a PUR faucet filter in order to fill it, but then I have a short, low-sitting faucet in the kitchen *seemed to have a leak or something at the top of the handle where it meets near the top cover--condensation formed after first few uses Yes, the water level window is in an annoying location. Yes, it's loud. Yes, it lets off a lot of steam through the spout, but what's the thing for anyway? No, it doesn't make a loud noise besides a little click when the switch flips off after it stops heating. Yes, the switch is flimsy-feeling, but you really don't need to apply much pressure--less than to flip a light switch. You just have to decide if the pros outweigh the cons for this one.
