Unintended, Rapid Disassembly With A Last-Century Battery
The base unit comes off too easily. When the motor is armed, the momentum of the spinner can cause the base to rotate and drop off when the motor stops. Even disarmed, the critters can torque the bottom enough to cause it to drop into the bushes. Customer service suggested the problem is screws that aren't tight enough, but that was easily ruled out. I'm also curious why Droll Yankee uses NiCad cells. That's so late 1990s, with the attendant problems of charging, "charge memory," cell reconditioning, and useful life. There's also no charge light to indicate "full charge" or "discharged" -- a strange omission on such a relatively expensive device. The product is in desperate need of redesign. Lithium cells would be a good start. A more secure base is mandated. If the issue is preventing motor burnout when the ring is grabbed by raccoons, then a high-torque shut off is an easy addition. In all, the present incarnation is nowhere near as good as the original. I would have returned it, but Amazon tracking showed it as "never delivered," with no way to correct the error. Oh, . . . I've no idea what the "suction power" rating is, so I'm being charitable as this gismo in't a vacuum cleaner.
