I wanted to love this device and app. I tested it to be sure I know all the nuances and the correct way to use it. So, I put it into "live fire" use. I decided to separate the tile from my key chain and leave in a coffee shop with the owner. I drove away and later at home marked the tile as lost and requested community help. I noticed that the Tile was pinging a location that was NOT where I left it. I drove away in an opposite direction than the Tile indicated where it was so I didn't set a new location. So a week later, when no one with a Tile app happened by, I went back to get it. Well, if I went to the pinging location, I would never find the tile as it would be outside my bluetooth range. I tried that just for the experience and my phone could never find the tile (and yes ,the app was running and bluetooth enabled and I had a wifi connection). So I went to the exact spot where I left it and the app found it. I checked for the ring and got one. My phone app indicates that the Tile is found but would not update or refresh to the real location. I realize that there is a lag. After 30 minutes, the tile was still pinging from a wrong location. I contacted Tile Chat and the tech was nice but the problem exceeded her expertise and she asked for a problem report from the phone which I did. The solution was to replace my tile. Hmmmmm...... This device and app are mission critical type items and I found that the very first unit (2nd gen) malfunctioned. My confidence was lost at that point and being offered a replacement as the solution I did not have a good feeling. I declined a replacement as I wanted to move on and try another device and app. The chat tech said "Alright then. If you have any more questions...... Thank you for your time." She didn't seem to realize that maybe a little more reach out would be appropriate. Over and hour later, the tile ping started to match up with my phone again. But the moment of discovery was lost. If this had been a real situation ( I was practicing), I would have lost my keys and the security of having a Tile would have been false security.
