Worst Watercolor Paper I've Tried...
I've been a watercolor artist for some time now. It's my primary medium. I've tried Canson, Arches, Strathmore, and tons of other brands of paper. I had high hopes for this paper, as it says it is a 140lb, 300gsm paper. 300gsm is typically what I look for along with it being a 100% cotton paper. I did some switched on a piece of this paper, with a typical amount of water and pigment. And then I did a lifting test on one of my swatches, it IMMEDIATELY started pilling, the paper just started breaking apart. I've worked on Canson XL Watercolor Paper when I was first starting out and even that paper didn't pill. And along with the pilling, this paper also had tons of backruns and the paper was extremely buckled after only three swatches on it. I couldn't imagine anyone using more than a little bit of water on it, as unless it's being taped down, it'll ripple all over the place. And multiple washes can't be easily accomplished because of the fact that it pills so much! I recommend that you get either some Strathmore 400 series watercolor paper or some Arches. If you are tight on money, look at Jerry's Artarama, Cheap Joe's, or Dick Blick for a deal on Arches. Trust me, it's well worth the higher price tag. Don't waste your hard earned money on this paper.
