Update Sept-2015 After only two years, this unit failed. Save your money do not by Western Digital =========================================================== Regarding the WD Smartware software - It runs the first backup fine, but then all incremental backups just don't work. The subsequent backups launch based on a schedule but then just run interminably without ever copying over the latest changes. This is the case for both backups to the Passport and to Dropbox. The option where it monitors continuously for backup activity does not work at all. The software was the whole reason I bought this drive. May be ok on other versions of windows, but not working on Windows 8 after the initial backup runs. update: Also, don't bother trying to contact tech support. You get a case number but they never actually put you in contact with anyone or have someone call/email you back. update part 2: ok, this just keeps getting better (well, worse actually). I found a post on the WD forums indicating this is a known problem with the software. The first backup works then nothing after that - and not just Windows 8.
