May contain nickel metal, depends where it was made
Don't trust Farberware, some pots may contain toxic nickel metal, though this one didn't others did. I'm very disappointed about their nickel containing stainless steel pots, and had bought the 6 qt and 12 quart stockpots - the lid on the 12 qt contains nickel metal, and the entire 6 quart also contains it throughout. When I called Farberware and tried to confirm with Farberware representatives that the stainless steel the pots are made from did not contain nickel metal which I am allergic to causing skin rashes and sores (this is a well documented condition), two of the representatives at Farberware on two different occasions told me none of their pots contain nickel with one saying it was taken out of all of them 10 years ago. They also told me I could use a magnet to test for nickel. If nickel is present the magnet will not be attracted. I did the test on this pot when I received it and the magnet was not attracted. When I called them up again the rep I spoke with told me that this one did contain nickel and the other two reps were wrong. Since by that time I had already purchased it I said I would have to do a return and pay an $18 shipping fee and potentially a restocking fee due to the mistaken information they had given me. The most they could do was to offer me a 30% discount on a website that has a very limited selection of pots that doesn't even have this size or type. No offer to compensate me otherwise for their mistake. Since 10 to 15% of the population has nickel allergies, and acidic foods like tomato sauce can leach unhealthy amounts according to a recent OSU study, they should have labelled what metals are present in their pots so that the consumers with this problem can avoid them. Better yet, they should take nickel metal out of all their pots and pans since its also a known reproductive toxin (shown to cause infertility) and is a carcinogen in higher amounts. Of course they don't seem to have the consumers health or wellbeing in mind but more their corporate profits. There are other cookware companies that have removed the nickel metal and are going out of their way to inform consumers. These companies who are more ethically responsible will win out in the end, but it's unfortunate that Farberware is causing health problems in unsuspecting people and does not train their employees with accurate information. Farberware is also stingy in not compensating for the mistake they made. Some of these pots have nickel and some don't but there is no way to find out before buying them. They also said it was difficult to get the different factories around the world to label the pots with metal content because they had no control over that which seems false to me since they are contracting to have them made and other symbols are engraved on the bottom.
