Not Good For Hermit Crabs
You can believe everything a pet store tells you but caring for hermit crabs requires much more than a "kit"
Hermit Crabs Facts (Before you buy)
Hermit Crabs Need Heat 80-85 Degrees (not below 75 degrees F or higher then 90)
Hermit Crabs Need Humidity to BREATHE 80% Humidity
Hermit Crabs NEED both Marine Grade Saltwater and Fresh Water (In bowls they can submerge into and get out of)
Hermit Crabs can live (in proper conditions) 30+ Years
Hermit Crabs are not "Bred" but Taken from the Wild
Hermit Crabs are Social Animals
Hermit Crabs Molt their Exoskeleton as they grow and need to bury in sand to do it or they will DIE
Hermit Crabs Eat Fresh and Dried Fruits, Fish, Shrimp, Veggies, Meat & Flowers
Hermit Crabs should never be given PAINTED shells! They are toxic & crabs can get stuck in them or ingest the paint
Hermit Crabs do not like to be handled and stress easily and do NOT make good children's pets
Hermit Crabs are do not bite but they can pinch very hard
What you need to get started
What you need to start off with 2 small hermit crabs: (a Run Down)
(1) 10-20 Gallon Glass Fish Tank
(1) Heat Resistant Screen Top with Clips/or Glass top (you'll need to insulate the screen top)
(1) Thermometer/Humidity Gauge
(1-2) Bags of Clean Play Sand 50 lbs (depending on the depth you'll need)
(1) Brick of Eco Earth
(1) Under Tank Heater (For sides of tank only) Lights can be used as well (no basking lights!) only reptile heat bulbs and only if the temp does not go higher than 88-89+ Degrees (Crabs CAN overheat!)
(2) Deep water dishes Salt and Fresh Water (deep enough for crab to dip it's shell into (or with a ramp to climb out of)
(1-2) food bowls
(2-3) Decor, Things to Climb, Huts
(3+) Extra Natural Shells Per Crab
(1 box/bag) Terrarium Moss
(1) Plastic Spray Bottle (To mist tank)
(1) Plastic Container For Moss Pit & Suction Cups/Shower Caddy
(1) Box 10 Gal Instant Ocean Sea Salt/measuring spoons/funnel/empty clean 20 oz bottle
(1) Bottle of Water Dechlorinator* (Tap water will kill hermit crabs)
or (1-2) Gallons of Spring Water (You can mix salt into this water and it's safe for the salt water also)
