A $50 tablet with so much potential but 5 showed up defective
Let me start by saying I really wanted to like amazons new tablet. $50 is a great price and this thing is awesome paired with your amazon prime account.
That being said the first one I received had a dead pixel and amazon was fast at replacing it. The second arrived with the same problem and again amazon was fast at replacing it. The third showed up with the exact same problem and at this point I was a little upset and started to see a trend. I went ahead and decided to get another replacement but this time shipment was 2 day instead of 1 day. The 4th (pictured) showed up with even more dead pixels. I then got a 5 replacement but should have stopped at number 4 since the 5th also had a dead pixel.
After getting the 4th replacement (and after being kind of difficult on the phone with amazon customer service) they finally connected me with someone who didn't sound like they were reading off a list. He and was very personable and convinced me to give it another shot. The 5th one sent had the smallest pixel problem but it was still there. I honestly wouldn't have noticed but considering I went through 5 tablets I'm going to examine everything top to bottom.
Sooooooo now I'm thinking for $50 you get what you pay for and maybe just pretend the pixel isn't bad. I mean it's only noticeable if you look for it on a black screen in the dark... I can live with that right??? No. If you're like me and think it's unacceptable to get 5 defective products in a row you might understand.
The actual deal breaker at the end of this roller coaster is the lack of support for 2 apps that I use on a daily basis. I could have lived with the 5th one but the tablet lacks support for Pandora and Youtube. Pandora just sits there showing you a wonderful song you might get jiggy with but doesn't play any music. The amazon youtube app and youtube website in the silk browser both just hang on playing videos :( Putting a video in full screen just turns the device into a nice black screen that you can then enjoy looking at your dead pixels.
If you've read this far let me just warn you that your mileage may vary. Amazon is supposedly implementing an operating system update that could very well take care of the youtube and pandora problems I encountered. I do encourage everyone who gets one to immediately go over the screen with a fine tooth comb and search long and hard for any dead pixels.
For me this device had so much potential but I don't suggest anyone buy it.
