This is not pure gold; it is not 999/1000 gold. I am a trained chemist and after dissolving the lot in aqua regia, the solution showed the telltale sign of copper (Cu) contamination by turning emerald green. Chemistry does not lie. I cannot speak on whether or not this item is good for costumes or artistic endeavors, but I would highly recommend not eating it as copper is toxic in significant quantities.
