On April 28, 2018 I turned my coffee maker off at 1pm. It was scheduled to turn itself off at 1:30pm. I had it set to brew my coffee at 9:30 in the morning. My daughter and I left the house at 1:38pm that day for a gymnastics fundraising event. We left at around 4:45 to 5pm to head to A.I. DuPont Children’s hospital. (My oldest daughter had been in the hospital since Thursday. We were visiting and my In-Laws left around 7:30 to go to my house and walk our Puppy Kash (GoldenDoodle). At 8:34pm I get a text from my neighbor Bill asking if I am home. Before I could reply he texted your house is on Fire. I freaked out and ran out of my daughters hospital room for my truck. At the same time I was calling Bill and all of my neighbors to tell them that our puppy Kash was in the house. What I did not know at the time was my In-laws discovered the fire. I get home and find the Ladder truck, fire engines and firemen in my house. I also find out that Kash did not make it. After the firemen left I was in the house with the Delaware State Fire Marshall. He was trying to figure out what caused the fire. Long story short after talking to him and him investigating he determined our New Krupa Coffee Maker caused the fire. This was later confirmed when my insurance company hired and Independant Fire investigation company to investigate the fire. He also confirmed this caused the fire. He said it appears the meltdown process started when I turned off the coffee maker. It Smoldered for several hours before causing the fire. Please unplug your coffee makers. I will do so from now on. So the inside of my house is a total loss along with all of the contents. The fire burned for around an hour or more before being discovered and causing a backdraft. Yes I said backdraft. My father in-law is lucky to be alive. Please see attached pictures. The last picture is of Kash. He will be forever missed!
