It was good while it lasted
***Spoilers*** Suits was, in my opinion, the best show on television. It displayed the perfect combination of intelligence, humor, and loyalty. Its character developments, intricate plots, and quality acting were unparalleled. Unfortunately season 7 has strayed from this winning formula. The writers and producers are operating somewhere on extreme ends of the effort spectrum - either trying too hard or not trying hard enough. Season 7 has been like a string of poorly conceived webisodes. The storylines are amateur. The dialogue is hyper-dramatic. It sounds like something straight out of daytime television. Characters are yelling at eachother like 10 year olds being sent to their rooms without supper. Some of the plots are wildly unbelievable, and have more holes in them than a pound of swiss cheese. In this new season, characters haven't 'developed' as much as they've just turned into completely different characters. Harvey: Has gone soft, and has begun giving away promotions like candy. He is pursuing a relationship that simply does not compliment his character. If there is a woman for Harvey, it's Donna, and nobody else. Lewis: Is behaving like a simp, attempting to raise another man's baby in a previous season. He is now upset that he was dumped by a loose woman who judged him harshly for being a cutthroat lawyer - what a demeaning storyline for this brilliant character. If there's a woman for Lewis, it's Sheila, and nobody else. I don't see how he gets any lawyering done now that his full time job is looking for the next tissue to cry into. Donna: Despite her lack of qualifications, has guilted Harvey into making her a partner, then a COO with a vote, which by the way is STILL A PARTNER. She attempts to embody Harvey and Lewis's conscience (a role she was more successful with as a legal secretary) but only manages to nag them and handicap their decisions. It appears that the actors themselves are aware of this decline, as I find them giving mediocre performances this season. Their lack of enthusiasm is plain as day, and I've caught them stumbling over their lines on at least two occasions. To the writers and producers, thank you for an amazing show. But please stop resting on your laurels and return to the winning formula. I miss the wit, the movie-quotes, and the cutthroat lawyering. Suits used to be 80% business and 20% personal, now it's 80% personal and 20% business. If you need to refresh your minds on the core values of each character, I urge you to revisit seasons 1-6. Thank you
