Poor design, worse execution
I am surprised about high many positive reviews there are for the product - the design has some serious flaws, and none of the 4 containers that I received worked properly.
First - the design is that there is a one way valve in the lid, as air is driven out of the container, it can't come back in. The main design problem is that there is no bellows or pump to get out the air, instead, you clip the lid in place, and then press the whole top down, which forces some air out the valve, and the top sucks in a little, and then it bounces back a little, but not all the way back because the valve closes. You press down again ( since the top is already slightly concave, you will get less of a push down on each try ) and again you hear a little more air coming out of the valve, and the top gets more concave. Note that for this to work, the container must be pretty rigid, or it would collapse from the vacuum ( like when they crush an aluminum can by putting it in a bag and using a vacuum sealer to take out all the air ) As a result, the lid doesn't move down very much, or get out much of the air on the bigger containers. Worse, on the smallest container, I put a very large amount of pressure, and it only flexed a little, hardly getting out any of the air. The second main problem, and I don't know if it is poor design, or poor execution, is that on the 3 that I could actually make vacuum out some air, the air leaked back in very quickly. The first one I tried, I did the press on the lid, you hear some air escape, and repeated a few times, you could see the lid was concave due to the suction. I got up the next morning, and the lid was no longer concave, and I unsnapped the clips, and the lid came off without releasing the vacuum. I then tried the other three ( as I noted, I couldn't get any real vacuum with the smallest one ) The other 2 had a noticeable leak within a few hours. So none of the 4 worked properly. On the positive side, the containers are very heavy duty, and they certainly have less air exposure than something left on the counter - they are not, in my opinion, vacuum sealed by any stretch of the imagination. Finally, if you think I may have some vendetta, go back and look at the positive reviews. An extremely high percentage mention in the review that they got the product for free . The other thing that is quite unusual is that there are 7 pages of opinions, but all are within the last 30 days. Often, you see numerous reviews all the same day. My point is that it doesn't look like anyone used these for more than a few days at most before they posted their review, and apparently no one has had them more than a month, yet the reviews are over the top glowing . I would stay away. If you want a sealed container, there are cheaper options. If you want something vacuum sealed, then keep looking, as I am, for something that works.
