Buy the DUO instead
This thing is garbage. I got it in May. It was fine at first. Then I was getting BURN error messages for recipes that worked perfectly fine in my DUO. Put the inner pot from this into the DUO, and it cooked fine.
I had no problem with anything that involved putting a couple of cups of water into the pot and cooking food on the trivet or a steamer basket. For example, hard-boiled eggs. I have used the same method to cook these since I got my DUO in 2014. Never a problem. Bought the Mini, which is identical to the DUO, just smaller. Eggs work fine in that. Got the Ultra in May, when I first got it, eggs cooked fine. Eggs cooked fine today. At first. Later, I decided to do another half dozen eggs., Exact same method. Eggs came out soft-boiled. Longer cooking proved to make them impossible to peel. Why did it work fine earlier, but not later? It appeared to have come to pressure properly, and there were no error messages. Got out the Mini and did more eggs in that. Perfect. So it is not the method or user error on my part, it's this lousy machine.
Luckily, I still have the DUO; I was going to give it away, but now it is coming back up from the basement and back into service. I'll stick with the tried and true that has never caused me a problem. I thought I would like the extra features, but what good are they if the stupid machine stops working properly? So, if you are looking to buy an Instant Pot, resist the urge to buy this, even if it goes on sale for Black Friday or Prime Day, and get the DUO.
