Wanted this to hang some new Japanese knives I purchased and this was the only 10" one I could find. It certainly works; magnet is strong and grabs the knives but overall a disappointment. Wood they used is cheap looking (pine?) poorly dyed dark. It was made by merging two different blocks (see picture) leaving an end that would look like crap if it were mounted facing out and visible. What they don't tell you in the description is how it is mounted and that it has a big hollow down the back. This means that if you want to mount it with double backed tape, half of the back is not available to support that. Additionally the mounting plates were put in with screws that protrude out. You have to remove these screws/plates to get any mounting tape to work... and good luck. The screws were put in sloppily and with the Phillips heads "pre-stripped" from this poor job. All in all would have been great in a garage work area but in a modern kitchen with nice wood cabinetry, not so nice. Will continue to look for another 10" unit that looks better. Did get it mounted and hoping that the tape will work! UPDATE: Item was mounted for 5 days and started peeling off. As I was afraid of, the big open space on the back where the tape can't grip was the cause; unit needs to be screw mounted which I can't do. The "often sold with" showing the double sided tape truly misleading. The weight of just 3 knives caused the unit to start rolling downwards. Had to take the whole unit down for fear of the knives falling. Unit headed to the kindling box and stars reduced to 1 since there is no zero star rating.
