NOT FOR MTHFR MUTATIONS
This is my first review on Amazon and I'm only writing it because what I found may be helpful to other MTHFR folks. I have a compound hetero MTHFR mutation. As a result I try to eat healthy, avoiding "enriched" products, supplementing my diet with active forms of B6, B12, and 5-methyl Folate, and exercising. I have been taking MegaFood's Women Over 40 One Daily for a couple of years. When I discovered it I was thrilled because it was a whole food vitamin and I thought there would never be any synthetic vitamins contained in it. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I was browsing their website tonight and saw a new prenatal vitamin that specifically address the Mthfr mutation of expectant mothers. Initially I was confused because I thought a whole food vitamin meant that all the vitamins were in a usable form because they were sourced from food. I called the company for clarification and was surprised to learn that they use USP isolated B6 & B12 forms in their vitamins. Honestly, I had to look up USP B6 and B12 - what I found is that they are pharmaceutical grade vitamins and ARE NOT the active/converted forms needed for Mthfr folks. They use the yeast as a delivery system - not as conversion from inactive to active form as a previous reviewer wrote a few years ago. I hope this review is helpful to the MTHFR community. In MegaFood's defense, the customer service agent did say that they will have vitamins addressing Mthfr mutation in the future (beyond the prenatals).
